How an order goes

start to launch

Four tickets.

No discovery workshop. No twelve-person email chain. No meeting whose main outcome is scheduling another meeting.

Here’s what happens.

  1. TICKET 1 OF 4first reply: usually within a day

    Tell me what’s bugging you

Send me the name of the business, the website if you have one, and the thing you want fixed.

No site yet is also a perfectly good problem.

I’ll look through what you have, figure out what I need to know, and write back with a few normal questions.

    You bring
The business name, a link if there is one, and a couple minutes.
    You get
A straight answer about what I’d make and what it should cost.
  2. TICKET 2 OF 4demo: usually within a few days

    I build a demo

This is the part I wish more people did.

    I build an actual homepage.

Your business name. Your colors. Real words. Real buttons. Something you can open on your phone and poke at.

Not a screenshot of a future website.

    You bring
Nothing is required yet. A logo and a few photos help if you have them.
    You get
A private link to the working demo.
    It costs
    Nothing.
  3. TICKET 3 OF 4usually one to three weeks

    We fix what’s off

Open it and tell me what you think.

    Not designer feedback. Human feedback.

    • “I hate that color.”
    • “That photo makes the place look too fancy.”
    • “We would never say that.”
    • “Can this button be way more obvious?”

    That’s useful.

I make the changes, get the direction right, and build out the rest.

    You bring
Honest reactions and whatever photos, menus, services or details the site still needs.
    You get
The finished site on a private link before it goes live.
    The slow part
Usually waiting on photos, menus and final details. If the words are the problem, I can write those too.
  4. TICKET 4 OF 4launch night

    Launch night

Once everything looks right, I put it on your domain.

I connect the security certificate, test the forms, check the mobile version, make sure the basics are there for Google, and give you the logins that belong to you.

    Then I click the button.

    You bring
Your domain login, if you have it. If you don’t, tell me what you know and I’ll help track it down.
    You get
A live website and the keys to it.
    After that
Keep me around for $25 a month, update it yourself, move it somewhere else someday. Your call.

Prep list

Handy to have. None of this is required before you say hi.

  • Your logo, even if it’s an ugly little JPEG
  • A few photos
  • Hours, address and phone number
  • A menu, service list or price list
  • Your domain login, if you know it
  • A website you like
  • A website you absolutely do not want yours to resemble

What you don’t need

  • A brand strategy deck
  • A finished folder of professional photos
  • Perfect website copy
  • To know what DNS means
  • To know which kind of website you need
  • To have everything figured out before you contact me

You know your business. That’s enough to start.

I’ll pull the website part out of it.

What if…

…I don’t like the demo?

Then you don’t buy it. That’s the entire reason I build the demo before taking money.

…I have no photos?

Start with what you’ve got. Phone photos are often completely usable. If I need something specific, I’ll tell you exactly what to take a picture of.

…I hate writing about my business?

Most people do. Send me notes, old copy, texts, bullet points or a rambling description. I can write the website from there.

…I don’t know who owns my domain?

Extremely normal. I’ll help figure out where it is and what we need to get control of it.

…I need it fast?

Tell me the actual date. Simple sites can move quickly when I have everything I need. If the date isn’t realistic, I’ll tell you before you pay me.

…I want to change things later?

Then I’ll build the parts you change often so they’re easy to get to. Or keep me around for $25 a month and send me the changes.

…I already have a site with stuff worth saving?

Good. We’re not burning the house down for sport. I’ll keep whatever is useful and rebuild the parts that aren’t.
